Melbourne Fencing & Retaining Walls since 1964

Fern Gully History George and Elizabeth Soos established FERNTREE GULLY FENCING CO. PTY LTD in May of 1966.They had arrived from Hungary some 10 years earlier. They saw a need for someone to construct fencing around the new houses in the developing suburbs around the Ferntree Gully area. Ferntree Gully Fencing fast developed a name as a quality supplier of fencing to the major builders in the fast developing outer eastern growth corridor. The business continued to grow at a steady rate as the surrounding suburbs did.

In July of 1983 the Soos’ decided to sell the business they had developed due to the declining health of George. After at least 2 failed sale attempts Peter and Miz McKenzie purchased a half share of Ferntree Gully Fencing Co. in March 1984. Elizabeth Soos agreed to stay on and help them learn the business and then sell the remaining half 12 months later.

The McKenzies continued to develop the business in the same style while raising a family at the same time. Both the business and the family were growing at a fast rate. The original site in Kevin Avenue became too small and Miz spent more time at home with the family. In September of 1988 the business moved to its current location in Laser Drive Rowville and Peter employed his first office assistant. This is a purpose built facility, which will house the business for years to come. In 1996 the business had fenced out the majority of the new estates in the original area and was doing more and more work in the new growth area of Narre Warren / Cranbourne.

With the geographical shift of both work and base the name of Ferntree Gully Fencing became less and less relative so the company name was changed to Fern Gully Fencing & Trading Co. PTY LTD. and continued to grow. At the end of September 1998 Peter McKenzie was tragically killed in an accident. This left the business to be run by the dedicated staff, most of whom are still with Fern Gully Fencing today, until the fate of this well-established company was resolved. The business was subsequently sold in January of the following year to the Bland family who to this day run the business focusing on the same philosophy as has been well established in over 30 years of continuous trade. To this day we have sub contractors who have remained connected to the company through all 3 owners.
